Fostering Collaboration by Location-Based Crowdsourcing

چکیده
Crowdsourcing is a recent development to solve a variety of problems efficiently, and which implies various alternatives of collaboration. However, as novel technologies are able to exploit location-sensing capabilities of mobile devices, the so-called location-based crowdsourcing (LBCS) developed as a new concept. This paper suggests a typology for LBCS as a means that fosters collaboration with the crowd including three types of LBCS: confirmation-based, digital good-based, and physical-based. Each type is underpinned with exemplary applications. Furthermore, opportunities and challenges are analysed; and future trends in LBCS are discussed.

Teams vs. Crowds: a Field Test of the Relative Contribution of Incentives, Member Ability, and Emergent Collaboration to Crowd-based Problem Solving Performance
Organizations are increasingly turning to crowdsourcing to solve difficult problems. This is often driven by the desire to find the best subject matter experts, strongly incentivize them, and engage them with as little coordination cost as possible. A growing number of authors, however, are calling for increased collaboration in crowdsourcing settings, hoping to draw upon the advantages of team...

This report describes the culmination of the 13th installment of the “Adaptive Computing (and Agents) for Enhanced Collaboration” (ACEC) track. ACEC focuses on collaborative computing that occurs dynamically among webaccessible software systems and devices. The articulation of these network artifacts must be controlled by adaptive, intelligent control mechanisms, sometimes realized as agents. A...

Crowdsourcing refers to the use of technologies to gather the collective effort and wisdom from an undefined group of online users for organizational innovation and/or problem solving. While the idea holds a lot of potential, its implementation can be thwarted by an ill design and management of the collaboration processes. Therefore, studies on crowdsourcing collaboration processes are importan...
متن کاملCrowdstore: A Crowdsourcing Graph Database
Existing crowdsourcing database systems fail to support complex, collaborative or responsive crowd work. These systems implement human computation as independent tasks published online, and subsequently chosen by individual workers. Such pull model does not support worker collaboration and its expertise matching relies on workers’ subjective self-assessment. An extension to graph query language...
